What is Raechat?
Raechat is a program for the AOL Instant Messanger Network used by programs like AIM,GAIM and Trillian. Raechat will deliver messages to users when they log on or at a specific time you specify. It also saves any messages you recive while Raechat is running, saves your buddies aways messages, provides contact information, and custom away messages. Raechat requires Perl and the NET::OSCAR library to be installed(the install progam should set this up for you). The messagner code is written in perl and is cross platform, while the GUI front end is writen in C++ and is not(a mac version is coming though!).
How do I tell if Raechat is running successfully?
When Raechat logs on, it should display a ballon showing the status of the connection. When Raechat connects, the ballon message will change from connecting to connected. Thereafter, you may mouse over the Raechat icon, and see how many messages have been delievered, and how many messages and away messages have been recieved.
I cant seem to log on?
If the connecting message never goes away, or never appears, this means either that perl or NET:OSCAR has not been properly configured, you've attempted to log in and log out of the AOL network too many times in a short period of time and are on cool down, or you've found a bug in Raechat. If you think you've found a bug, please e-mail the author at jesse@laeuchli.com.
Raechat crashed and I'm still logged on?
If Raechat closes abnormally for some reason, the perl script controling Raechat's connection with AOL will still be running in the background, and you'll stay connected to the network. This can prevent your Raechat settings from being updated. In the meantime, simply bring up the list of running processes with CTL-ALT-DEL and end the perl task. This should fix the problem.
